{"id":1282,"date":"2010-09-26T11:47:12","date_gmt":"2010-09-26T22:17:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/teuthorn.net\/feuilleton\/?p=1282"},"modified":"2019-10-05T15:32:33","modified_gmt":"2019-10-05T15:32:33","slug":"are-we-related-wolframalpha-com-has-the-answer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teuthorn.net\/feuilleton\/?p=1282","title":{"rendered":"Are we related? &#8211; Wolframalpha.com has the answer."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ecactly one year ago I puzzled my brain about family relation and the complicated terms which different languages&nbsp; (German : English) use for describing such relation.&nbsp; I understood that pictures may tell more than words ever can, at least when I found <a href=\"http:\/\/teuthorn.net\/feuilleton\/?p=653\" target=\"_blank\">explaining graphics<\/a> instead.<br \/>\nEach time, when I have to explain&nbsp;<strong>how we are related<\/strong> &#8211;&nbsp; to one of  the newly found family members on facebook or elsewhere &#8211;&nbsp; I make sure  to use the right term by consulting those images.<br \/>\nNevertheless the procedure is the same everytime. It works the way as,  if we were still children using our fingers:&nbsp; <em><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Who is Theresa? Oh, she is  my grandfather&#8217;s brother&#8217;s great grandchild. Isn&#8217;t she?<\/span><\/em> Let us see?<br \/>\nGuenter Junkers of the Compgen-Association straightforward gave a worthfull hint in <strong>Computergenealogie, Magazin f\u00fcr Familienforschung, Heft 3\/2010, page 7<\/strong>.&nbsp; He&nbsp; presented information about a&nbsp; sience-based search engine named wolframalpha.com! Ask Wolfram for <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em><strong>&#8222;grandfather&#8217;s brother&#8217;s great grandchild&#8220;<\/strong><\/em><\/span>, and he will, at the very beginning, speak to your eyes, which understand immediately:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1283\" title=\"wolframalpha_ausschn\" src=\"http:\/\/teuthorn.net\/feuilleton\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/wolframalpha_ausschn.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"406\" height=\"263\"\/><br \/>\n(Self = Peter, second cousin = Bob, second cousin once removed = Theresa.)<br \/>\nThis is not all! Wolfram also knows, that our common ancestor lived three generations back &#8211; we see it -, that&nbsp; there is a difference of one generation between Theresa and me. It&#8217;s obvious!&nbsp; Consequently&nbsp; she is the younger one.<br \/>\nBut now the hit:&nbsp; Following mathematical calculation there pulsate<strong> 0,78125 % or 1\/128 of our common ancestor&#8217;s blood in our veins<\/strong>. What Wolfram does not know,&nbsp; is the distribution of the remaining 99,21875 % of both of us.
